How a season with Bale Kami unfolds
Every surfer moves through the same stages, whether you are a complete beginner or returning after a long break. Here is the path we follow, with realistic timing and clear milestones along the way.
Week 1
Beach assessment
We start on the sand, not in the water. Your instructor walks you through the day's tide chart, identifies local rip zones, and checks that your board and leash are in good condition. This session sets the baseline for everything that follows.
Weeks 2–3
Whitewater practice
Small-group sessions focus on the mechanics of standing up, correct foot placement, and efficient paddling. You stay in the whitewater where waves are forgiving, building muscle memory before you attempt a green wave.
Month 2
Green wave entry
Once your pop-up is consistent, we move you outside. You learn to position yourself in the lineup, read incoming sets, and paddle for waves before they break. Most students catch their first unbroken wave during this phase.
Month 3+
Independent surfing
Now you ride with control. Sessions cover bottom turns, trimming along the face, and the unwritten rules of sharing waves. You also learn to self-assess conditions, so you can decide when a spot is right for your level.
Ongoing
Ocean safety refreshers
Conditions change with the seasons, and so do our briefings. Join a women-only morning, a junior holiday clinic, or a tidal safety talk to keep your knowledge current. Board repairs and equipment rental stay available whenever you need them.
Lessons run in small groups of no more than six people, and wetsuits are included when water temperatures call for them. If you have your own board, bring it along for a free safety check. Sessions are weather-dependent, so we confirm each booking 24 hours ahead based on the forecast.
How a session comes together
Every lesson, camp, and board repair follows the same clear path. We keep the steps simple so you know what to expect, how long things take, and what you need to bring on the day.
Send a quick message or call the kiosk. Let us know if you have surfed before, your comfort in the water, and which days suit you. This helps us match you with the right instructor and group size.
We review the local swell, wind direction, and tide times for your chosen slot. If conditions look unsafe for beginners, we suggest a different beach or reschedule at no charge. Safety comes before convenience.
Choose a soft-top board, rash guard, and reef-safe sunscreen from our rental rack. We fit the board to your height and experience, and check that everything is in good condition before you head down the sand.
Your instructor walks you through the day's specific conditions: where the rip currents sit, how to spot the safe channels, and what to do if you get caught in a strong current. This takes about ten minutes and applies to every session.
Groups stay at four people or fewer, so you get personal feedback on paddling, pop-ups, and wave selection. Junior clinics and women-only mornings follow the same structure with a pace suited to the group.
After the session we rinse the boards, return your gear, and talk through what went well. You get practical pointers for your next paddle and a clear recommendation on whether to book another lesson or join a supervised practice session.
Arrive 20 minutes early to sign in and get fitted. Lessons run rain or shine unless lightning is nearby. If you need to cancel, let us know at least 12 hours ahead and we will move your slot to another day.
